What’s the difference between the two types of Dayparting? With the campaign on/off type, the system pauses your campaign at the selected times and then turns it back on afterwards. With the bid adjustment type, the campaign stays active the whole time, but the bids are temporarily increased or decreased by a percentage you set. Outside the time block, the bids automatically go back to the original level.
Can I combine both types for the same campaign? Yes. You can link a campaign to a rule of the campaign on/off type and to a rule of the bid adjustment type at the same time. Just make sure the time blocks logically fit together. There’s little point in increasing bids at a moment when the campaign is paused.
How often does the system check whether a rule applies? Every hour. The system goes through all active accounts every hour and checks which Dayparting rules apply at that moment. A rule that starts at 14:00 will be processed by 15:00 at the latest if you create it just after 14:00.
Can I temporarily turn off a Dayparting rule without deleting it? Yes. You can disable a rule via the status switch. The system processes that immediately: paused campaigns are reactivated and adjusted bids are returned to the original level. You can turn the rule back on later without having to create it again.
Can I link multiple campaigns to one rule? Yes. When creating a rule, you select one or more campaigns. They all follow the same time schedule and the same settings.
My campaign is paused but I haven’t set up Dayparting. Could this be caused by Dayparting? Only if there is an active Dayparting rule of the campaign on/off type linked to that campaign. Check in the Dayparting overview if there is an active rule for that campaign. If there is and you don’t expect it, then switch off the rule or adjust the time block.
What happens to my campaign when the end date of a rule has passed? The system recognizes that the rule no longer applies and automatically reactivates paused campaigns. You don’t have to do anything for that.
Does the system also pause my campaign if it was already paused before the rule started? The system only pauses campaigns that are set to ENABLED at that moment. A campaign that you had already paused manually won’t be paused twice, but it also won’t be automatically activated at the end of the time block. The system only activates campaigns that it has paused itself via Dayparting.
How is the original bid recalculated after a bid adjustment? The system divides the adjusted bid by the factor by which it was increased or decreased. Suppose a keyword had a starting bid of €1.00 and the percentage is +20%, then the temporary bid becomes €1.20. Outside the time block, the bid is recalculated: €1.20 divided by 1.20 becomes €1.00 again. This way the original bid always remains mathematically reproducible.
What if the Bid Optimizer also adjusted the bid while Dayparting was active? This is a situation to keep in mind. If the Bid Optimizer adjusts the bid while Dayparting has applied an increased bid, then at the end of the time block the system recalculates from the bid that is valid at that moment. That’s why it’s recommended not to let Dayparting and the Bid Optimizer both act on the same campaign at the same time.
Can I set a negative percentage for the bid adjustment? Yes. A negative percentage temporarily lowers the bids. This is useful if you still want to stay visible at certain times but bid less aggressively, for example in the evening or at times when you know the conversion rate is lower.
Are the bids of all keywords in the campaign adjusted? Yes, all keywords in the linked campaigns are included. The percentage is applied to the bid that applies at that moment for each individual keyword.
What if I add a campaign to a bid adjustment rule while the time slot is already active? The system recognizes that the current moment falls within the time slot and adjusts the bids immediately when you save the rule. You don’t have to wait for the next hourly check.
Do I have to set an end date? No, an end date is optional. Without an end date, the rule keeps running until you turn it off or delete it manually. If you want to set up a temporary promotion, like an increased bid during a specific period, then an end date is useful so you don’t have to remember to stop the rule manually later.
Can I use the same name for two different rules? No. Every Dayparting rule must have a unique name.
What happens if I delete a rule while it’s active? The system processes the deletion immediately. Paused campaigns are reactivated and adjusted bids are reset to the original level before the rule is deleted.
